A Simple Meditation for Beginners to Relax the Nervous System and Enter Silence

Many beginners want to meditate but feel confused by techniques. They want something simple, natural, and effective — a way to relax the nervous system, silence the mind, and feel present. What I share here is not theory. It is a real experience that deeply changed my life.

This meditation can be done in the morning, evening, or any quiet time. It requires no posture mastery, no mantra, and no previous experience.

Step 1: Sit Quietly

Sit comfortably with your spine relaxed and upright. There is no need to force stillness. Just sit and allow the body to settle.

Step 2: Relaxed, Slightly Fast Breathing (3 Minutes)

Begin breathing a little faster than normal — but not strong, not forceful. The breath should remain relaxed and natural.

If the weather is not too cold and you feel comfortable:

Inhale deeply through the nose Exhale through the mouth

Continue this relaxed, slightly fast breathing for around 3 minutes. This helps release tension and wakes up body awareness.

Step 3: Inhale, Hold, and Relax

After about 3 minutes:

Take one deep inhale Hold the breath gently for 5 seconds Then exhale about 75% of the breath Hold the breath comfortably, as long as possible without strain

During this breath hold, completely relax your belly. Let it soften fully.

Step 4: Feel, Don’t Think

As the belly relaxes, feel the sensations around the abdomen. Then feel your whole body relaxing naturally. Shift your attention to bodily sensations and the surrounding environment — sounds, space, presence.

Do not follow thoughts.

Do not control the mind.

Just feel and be.

In this moment, the mind naturally becomes silent. Awareness drops into the present moment effortlessly.

Why This Works

This simple sequence relaxes the nervous system quickly. When the body is deeply relaxed, the mind has nothing to hold onto. Silence appears on its own.

I used to practice this often when I was young, especially in the evenings under a peepal tree. At that time, I did not even know the word “meditation.” Yet I could feel a deep meditative state — calm, silent, and complete. Later in life, I understood that this was true meditation: a relaxed body, a quiet mind, and pure presence.

This practice helped me enter meditation naturally, without effort, and it still does.

Practicing such meditation in a peaceful place like Pokhara, surrounded by nature and Himalayan energy, supports this experience even more. That is why many beginners search for easy meditation techniques in Pokhara and meditation retreats for nervous system relaxation.
