Healing the Mountains and the Mind: Unmani Yoga Retreat’s Relief Pledge and Nepal’s Post-Monsoon Renewal

Nepal is a land of mountains, rivers, forests, spirituality, and strong communities. It is also a country where people have learned to stand together during difficult times.
Following the recent disaster in the northern Himalayan region, our hearts are with everyone affected — the families who have lost loved ones, communities whose homes and livelihoods have been damaged, rescue teams, security personnel, travelers, and everyone involved in the ongoing response and recovery.
At Unmani Yoga Retreat in Pokhara, we believe that yoga is not only something we practice on a mat. Yoga is also compassion, awareness, responsibility, and conscious action.
During this difficult time, we want to contribute in a practical way.
Our 6-Month Relief Pledge
For the next six months, Unmani Yoga Retreat will contribute 3% of gross proceeds from guest bookings toward relief and recovery efforts supporting communities affected by the disaster.
This contribution will be made from our retreat and guest bookings during the pledge period.
Our intention is simple: when you travel to Nepal for yoga, meditation, sound healing, or a retreat, your journey can also contribute in a small way to the recovery of communities facing difficult circumstances.
Where will the contribution go?
Depending on verified local needs and reliable relief channels, our support may contribute toward:
- Emergency assistance for affected families
- Food and essential supplies
- Clean drinking water
- Temporary shelter
- Community infrastructure
- Schools and local pathways
- Other locally identified recovery needs
We believe that support should be handled with honesty and responsibility. We will share updates about our contributions whenever reliable information and documentation are available.
For us, this is not about making a large statement. It is about doing what we can, consistently and sincerely.
A Message of Solidarity from Pokhara
The recent disaster has reminded us once again of the power and vulnerability of the Himalayan landscape.
Mountain rivers can change rapidly during periods of intense rainfall, landslides, flooding, or other high-altitude events. Communities living along river valleys and mountain corridors can be particularly vulnerable when such events occur.
The affected northern areas are geographically different from Pokhara, where our retreat is located.
Nevertheless, Nepal is a connected community. What happens in one part of the country touches the hearts of people throughout the nation.
Our deepest condolences go to everyone affected.
We also extend our gratitude to the local communities, rescue workers, security personnel, volunteers, medical teams, and everyone working to help people during this challenging period.
Is Pokhara Safe to Visit?
After seeing news about a natural disaster, it is completely understandable for travelers to ask whether it is still safe to visit Nepal or Pokhara.
Unmani Yoga Retreat is located in Sarangkot, Pokhara, away from the northern Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river corridors affected by the recent disaster.
Pokhara is a major tourism destination in western Nepal and has its own geographical and transportation context.
However, travelers should always check current conditions before travelling, especially during the monsoon and immediately after significant weather events.
Road conditions, landslides, rainfall, flights, and mountain routes can change quickly.
For this reason, we encourage our guests to follow current information from official authorities and transportation providers and to contact us before travelling if they have questions about local conditions.
Why Pokhara Is a Special Place for a Retreat
Pokhara has long attracted travelers looking for mountains, nature, adventure, spirituality, and peace.
The city sits beside beautiful Phewa Lake, surrounded by green hills and backed by the Himalayan landscape.
A short journey from Lakeside takes you into quieter areas such as Sarangkot, where village life, forests, farmland, mountain views, and open skies create a very different atmosphere from a busy city.
For a retreat, this environment offers something precious:
space.
Space to breathe.
Space to walk.
Space to listen.
Space to sit quietly.
Space to notice what is happening within.
After the intensity of modern life, many travelers come to Nepal not only to see the Himalayas but also to experience a slower and more conscious way of living.

Sarangkot: Sunrise, Mountains and Stillness
Unmani Yoga Retreat is situated in the Sarangkot area of Pokhara.
Sarangkot is well known for its sunrise views over the Himalayas, but its beauty goes beyond the famous viewpoint.
The surrounding landscape offers peaceful village paths, green hills, forests, farmland, and wide views across the Pokhara Valley.
Early morning can begin with yoga and meditation while the mountains slowly become visible in the changing light.
Later, there may be time for walking, sound healing, meditation, reading, rest, or simply enjoying the surroundings.
A retreat does not always need to be filled with activities.
Sometimes the most meaningful part is having enough time to be still.
Yoga, Meditation and Himalayan Sound Healing
At Unmani Yoga Retreat, our programs bring together traditional practices that encourage awareness and inner stillness.
Hatha Yoga
Our Hatha Yoga sessions focus on conscious movement, posture, breathing, body awareness, and relaxation.
The practice is suitable for people who want to deepen their relationship with the body and breath, whether they are experienced practitioners or relatively new to yoga.
Himalayan Singing Bowl Sound Healing
Sound is another important part of our retreat experience.
During a singing bowl session, participants lie comfortably and listen to the sounds and vibrations created by Himalayan singing bowls and other traditional instruments.
Rather than promising unrealistic medical results, our approach focuses on deep relaxation, mindful listening, awareness, and creating a quiet space for reflection.
The experience can be particularly meaningful for people who find it easier to settle the mind through sound and listening.
Meditation
Meditation allows us to observe the movement of the mind without constantly following every thought.
Through sitting, breathing, observing, and letting go, we create an opportunity to experience greater awareness and inner quiet.
Mindful Living
Retreat life is intentionally simple.
Healthy vegetarian food, nature, yoga, meditation, sound, walking, rest, and silence become part of the daily rhythm.
The purpose is not to run away from everyday life.
It is to step back for a while and see it more clearly.
Healing the Mind While Supporting the Community
A yoga retreat alone cannot rebuild a damaged village.
But tourism can create meaningful connections between visitors and local communities.
When travelers stay at locally operated retreats, eat locally prepared food, work with local teachers and guides, and support local businesses, their journey contributes to the wider local economy.
Our six-month relief pledge is an additional commitment.
We see it as an expression of Karma Yoga — conscious action offered without expecting personal reward.
For us, this means taking responsibility for what we can do.
Even a small contribution can become meaningful when many people participate.
Travel to Nepal With Purpose
Travel can be more than sightseeing.
You can come to Nepal to experience the mountains, but also to experience yourself differently.
